I love Shirley's! Why you may ask? Besides fresh bagels, plenty of cream options, they also have a nice array of muffins, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, smoothies, açaí bowls, and coffees! You can call ahead and place your order for pick up too. My favorite for breakfast is getting an egg bagel, toasted with cream cheese and bacon! It's truly heaven! Also, their muffins are huge, fluffy, and never dry! I get the chicken Caesar salad for lunch and I can't stress enough how plentiful the portion size is! I usually have leftovers.

Even if you walk in, they can be super busy but still keep up with the pace and you're never waiting too long to place your order. Sometimes it can take a little longer to get your order but it's understandable when they get very packed. Otherwise, they're quick with it!! The staff is super friendly too!

There are but a few things for which I would describe myself as a connoisseur, but breakfast bagels are one. Being a fanatic, I eat them with frequency and make a point of seeking out highly-rated (on yelp, of course) purveyors whenever I travel.  On a recent trip to Newport Beach, I discovered a delightful specimen at Shirley's Bagels.

I use 'discovered' quite loosely as there was a line out the door when I arrived and, since they've been around since 1986, they're obviously well known. Owing to a review read here, I preordered online and bypassed the cue of O.C. gentry to grab my prepaid sack of warm deliciousness.

Before I delve into the contents of the bag, I'll mention the online ordering was top notch; once I chose a sandwich there was a long list of ways to customize my creation. Jalapeño cheese bagel, toasted, double bacon, sub cheddar cheese, slice of tomato, etc, etc.

Obviously the key to a great bagel sandwich is the quality of the bagel.  Shirley's bagels are the best I have had outside of Manhattan (NY state laws bar me from suggesting they are better). The quality of process and ingredients extended to rest of the sandwich. Fluffy eggs, crisp bacon, real cheese and a fresh, thickly-sliced tomato.

This was truly one of the finest breakfast bagels I have ever eaten and I will actively look for a reason to return to O.C. and delight in another. Shirley's is a must try - pro tip: order ahead online.

I am not a fan of bagels in general, but I do go to Shirley's Bagels regularly.  I love the quality and flavor of the The Californian on a jalapeño cheddar bagel.  The staff is always helpful and friendly.

Tip: phone your order during busy times.

Here's some very important advice: the line snakes against the left hand wall. Make sure you're in the proper place. And do make sure to have an inkling to the type of bagel you want with your meal because you have to choose a flavor.

I did no research and hastily ordered a lox and eggs bagel sandwich ($7.75). I arbitrarily chose an everything bagel. A lox and egg bagel includes the following: lox, egg, cucumbers + chives cream cheese. I asked for the bagel not to be toasted which made for a good future meal.

I've had Shirley's before - they make a darn good bagel. In fact, they make great bagel concoctions. I especially enjoyed my breakfast - good ingredients on a great bagel. Looking of breakfast? Stop by.

Phenomenal breakfast sandwich. Egg cheese and meat all for under six bucks. Tip not included. Bagel quality nine out of 10. Asked for a little butter perfectly buttered. Eggs are much higher quality than most bagel breakfast sandwich egg shops. Sausage was real nice thick and tasty. Cheese was generously placed, nice slice of cheddar with a great melt on it. I added a pack of pepper to each half of my sandwich, which were cut very nicely and a thoughtful skewer place to hold half together.A lot of pride, good hard-working crew, great service, excellent point of sale system making the transaction seamless. Lots of people milling about in the crowd was handled excellently for a late Friday morning. Highly recommended.
